Barb's Cinnamon Rolls

Total Time: 3 hrs 15 mins Preparation Time: 3 hrs Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 1 package dry yeast, dissolved in
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 6 cups approx. flour, enough to form dough
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup ( or brown) sugar, mixed with
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Recipe

  • 1 set yeast/water aside until dissolved and a bit foamy.
  • 2 melt shortening in hot water.
  • 3 add sugar and salt.
  • 4 let cool until tepid.
  • 5 add beaten eggs.
  • 6 add two c.
  • 7 flour and mix well.
  • 8 add yeast mixture.
  • 9 add enough flour to form a soft dough.
  • 10 turn out on floured board and knead until the dough is pliable.
  • 11 generously oil a large bowl and place dough in it.
  • 12 turn dough in bowl until coated w/ oil.
  • 13 cover w/ plastic wrap.
  • 14 refrigerate until doubled (several hours).
  • 15 when ready to use, punch dough down.
  • 16 turn out on floured board and roll out in a large rectangle.
  • 17 brush with melted butter.
  • 18 sprinkle evenly with cinnamon sugar.
  • 19 roll dough up jelly roll style on long side.
  • 20 trim ends with sharp knife.
  • 21 cut ½ inch slices and placed on greased baking sheet.
  • 22 let rise for ½ hour.
  • 23 preheat oven to 350 degrees f.
  • 24 bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • 25 remove from baking sheet while still warm.
