Brown Bag Apple Pie

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 50 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 -5 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 1/2 lbs tart apples, peeled, sliced (8 cups)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1 large brown paper bag
  • vanilla ice cream (optional) or whipped cream (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 combine flour, salt and shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • 2 stir in water with a fork, a little at a time, to form a ball.
