Apple Danish

Total Time: 1 hr 45 mins Preparation Time: 1 hr Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 cups peeled sliced apples
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (i always use liberally)
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 -3 tablespoons milk

Recipe

  • 1 cut shortening into flour and salt mixture.
  • 2 combine milk and egg yolk and add to flour mixture.
  • 3 pat 1/2 of the dough into jelly roll pan 11"x16".
  • 4 arrange apple slices on crust.
  • 5 combine sugar, flour and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples.
  • 6 dot with margarine.
  • 7 roll out remaining dough and cover apple layer.
  • 8 brush top of dough with slightly beaten egg .
  • 9 bake at 375 for 45 minutes.
  • 10 let cool slightly then make glaze by blending glaze ingredients and drizzling over warm danish.
