Brazil Nut Bars

Ingredients
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup brazil nut, thinly sliced or chopped
- 1 egg
Recipe
- 1 sift together flour,baking powder,salt and cinnamon,set aside.
- 2 cream together shortening,butter and brown sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy,using mixer at medium speed.
- 3 add eggs and vanilla,beat well.
- 4 gradually stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture,mixing well.
- 5 stir in half of the brazil nuts.
- 6 spread mixture into greased 15 1/2x10 12x1 inch jelly roll pan.
- 7 beat egg whites slightly.
- 8 brush over dough.
- 9 sprinkle with remaning nuts.
- 10 bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
- 11 cool slightly in pan on rack.
- 12 while still warm,cut into bars.
