Brazil Nut Bars

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 25 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup brazil nut, thinly sliced or chopped
  • 1 egg

Recipe

  • 1 sift together flour,baking powder,salt and cinnamon,set aside.
  • 2 cream together shortening,butter and brown sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy,using mixer at medium speed.
  • 3 add eggs and vanilla,beat well.
  • 4 gradually stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture,mixing well.
  • 5 stir in half of the brazil nuts.
  • 6 spread mixture into greased 15 1/2x10 12x1 inch jelly roll pan.
  • 7 beat egg whites slightly.
  • 8 brush over dough.
  • 9 sprinkle with remaning nuts.
  • 10 bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
  • 11 cool slightly in pan on rack.
  • 12 while still warm,cut into bars.
