Candy Cane Cookies

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Recipe

  • 1 cream the butter and sugar till fluffy.
  • 2 beat in the egg, lemon rind, and vanilla.
  • 3 add the milk alternately with the dry ingredients.
  • 4 put one-half of the dough in a medium bowl and add a few drops of red food coloring till color desired; leave the other .
  • 5 roll strips, one of each color, the size of a pencil and about 5" long.
  • 6 put them side by side.
  • 7 pinch together and twist into a rope and shape into a candy cane.
  • 8 place 1" apart on ungreased sheet.
  • 9 bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
