Apple Strudel

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 24
  • 3/4 cup butter flavor shortening
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 5 apples, peeled sliced
  • 1 cup sugar (scant)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (scant)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Recipe

  • 1 cut shortening into the mixture of 2 cups of flour and salt in bowl.
  • 2 add egg yolks and water: mix to form a sticky dough.
  • 3 chill in fridge.
  • 4 divide into 2 portions.
  • 5 roll 1 portion very thin on floured surface.
  • 6 place on lightly oiled baking sheet.
  • 7 arrange apple slices in rows on pastry.
  • 8 sprinkle with mixture of sugar, 1 tbsp flour and cinnamon.
  • 9 roll remaining pastry very thin.
  • 10 place over apples.
  • 11 turn up edges of bottom pastry; seal and flute edges.
  • 12 bake at 375°f for 45 minutes.
  • 13 mix remaining ingredients in a bowl.
  • 14 spread over warm strudel.
  • 15 cut into squares.
