Apple-almond-cinnamon Strata

Ingredients

- 1 lb loaf cinnamon raisin bread, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 8 eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted
- ground cinnamon
- powdered sugar
Recipe
- 1 spread bread pieces in a greased 3-quart rectangular baking dish.
- 2 in a big bowl, beat the eggs, milk, salt, and almond extract together with a whisk.
- 3 stir in apple pie filling and half of the almonds.
- 4 carefully pour apple mixture over the bread.
- 5 press bread pieces down into the egg mixture with a wooden spoon; sprinkle with the remaining almonds.
- 6 cover and refrigerate for 2-24 hours.
- 7 bake strata in a preheated 325° oven, uncovered, for 50 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
- 8 let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
- 9 lightly sprinkle cinnamon and/or sifted powdered sugar over the top before serving.
